Equality & Diversity

Shell has a bold goal: to become one of the world’s most diverse and inclusive companies, a place where everyone – from our employees to our customers, partners and suppliers – feels valued, respected and has a strong sense of belonging.

We’ve set this goal and embedded it in our global company strategy – Powering Progress – because it’s about who we are, it’s the right thing to do, and it will make us a stronger company. It will bring a richness of experience that will help us innovate for the future and better serve our customers, so we all thrive together. Our CEO and Executive Committee are accountable for our progress.

Our goal sounds great, but you may be asking “what does it mean?”.

  • It means that our inclusion strategy is about absolutely everyone. So whoever you are, and wherever you are, we want you to be free to be yourself at Shell and to contribute positively to our inclusive culture.
  • It means we recognise that each of us starts from a different place, and levelling the playing field for everyone means taking targeted action – starting with our four global equity focus areas (Gender, Race & Ethnicity, LGBT+ and Disability Inclusion and enABLEment).
  • It means we publish our roadmap and our guiding principles, which were built from hundreds of conversations with colleagues, so you know where we are today, where we want to go and how we plan to get there. We don’t have all the answers. And we’ll keep talking, listening, learning and improving our approach.
  • It means being transparent about our data and experiences. Much of it will be positive, some of it will show we’re heading in the right direction and some of it will demand we do more.
  • It means Shell is a great place to work because we have prioritised inclusion for decades, with an ambition to continuously improve because we know we can do more.

OUR DE&I GUIDING PRINCIPLES

We use these principles to inform our plans, challenge our thinking and guide our strategy.

This is for everyone.

It is not optional, nor is it a tick-the-box exercise.

We will hold ourselves and others accountable.

Like any other business priority, we will have visible leadership commitments and measure our progress.

We will live our values.

We will reward and celebrate progress, and address behaviours that are not aligned with our values.

This is a learning journey.

When mistakes happen, we will learn from them. We will openly discuss what has happened and what it will take to behave differently in the future.

Progress is more important than perfection.

This is about taking action so we reflect diversity in all of its forms, and continuously champion equity and inclusion.

Active allyship is critical.

We will commit the time and resources we need to make this successful.
