At CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

Job description
You will join a team responsible for developing and optimising hardware and software solutions for control, protection and safety systems used in CERN's experimental facilities. In this role, you will contribute to the operation and reliability of the magnet systems of the LHC experiments, including ATLAS, CMS, ALICE and LHCb, as well as other critical infrastructure.
You will be involved in the design, implementation and maintenance of low-voltage electrical systems, working closely with engineers, technicians and physicists in a multidisciplinary environment.
Your responsibilities
Design and document low-voltage power and control systems for magnet safety, control and auxiliary infrastructure.
Participate in the implementation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems for future LHC upgrades.
Contribute to the development and validation of electrical circuits for control and protection applications.
Collaborate with physicists, engineers and technicians to develop reliable and efficient technical solutions.
Produce technical documentation and support the operation of critical systems.
Your profile
Experience working on electrical engineering, automation or technical projects.
Exposure to electrical circuit design and documentation.
Experience using engineering software tools for electrical design (e.g. EPLAN or equivalent).
Experience with laboratory testing, commissioning or troubleshooting activities.
Participation in collaborative technical projects involving multiple stakeholders.
Skills
Knowledge of low-voltage power distribution and control systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
Basic knowledge of PLCs, instrumentation and industrial control systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
Eligibility criteria:
You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical Technical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
This position involves:
Participation in a regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays and official holidays.
Work in Radiation Areas.
Interventions in underground installations.
Residence in the immediate vicinity of the Organisation's installations.
A valid driving licence.
Stand-by duty, when required by the needs of the Organisation.
Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.
Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
What we offer
A monthly net stipend of either 5,266 or 5,793 Swiss Francs per month depending on your degree.
30 days of paid leave per year plus 2 weeks' annual closure.
Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health insurance scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
Family, child and infant monthly allowances depending on your individual circumstances.
A relocation package (installation grant and travel expenses) depending on your individual circumstances.
Possibility to extend your contract up to 36 months.
On-the-job and formal training including language classes.
