Using technology to build the future of finance. That’s one good thing.

Our Tech teams continuously drive innovation to deliver a positive impact for millions of customers every single day. And that’s what makes a career in technology here like nowhere else. Our Graduate programme offers three different rotations within our core engineering teams, ensuring you gain a broad range of experience to support your growth into a well-rounded full-stack software engineer.

You could be:

  • Leveraging our cutting-edge technologies to push a mobile feature to millions of users,
  • Optimising high-traffic APIs to ensure seamless customer experiences,
  • Delivering site reliability upgrades to keep our systems stable and secure,
  • Collaborating across diverse, cross-functional teams to build and deliver game-changing digital experiences.

The problems are live, the stack is modern, and the impact is immediate. Imagine your code running in production, shaping how millions of people manage their money. That’s not a distant goal here, it’s your first few months.

Whichever area you choose, we’re invested in your success. You’ll receive high-quality professional and technical training designed to drive forward your development and ours. And you won’t be navigating this alone. You’ll be fully supported by a dedicated manager, professional mentor, and peer buddy as you take on impactful projects to change banking for good.

Where and how you'll work

This is a permanent position based either in our Nottingham or London office. We embrace a hybrid approach to work. You'll spend three days a week in the office (Tuesday-Thursday), with Monday and Friday being optional work-from-home days.

Our offices are designed to inspire and support you. At our Nottingham head office, you'll find an on-site gym, restaurant and dedicated Learning Loft. Our London office boasts a rooftop running track and coffee bar.

What you’ll need

We don’t mind what degree background or grades you have, but we want to see:

  • You have a strong foundation of coding skills (in any language).
  • You have the flexibility and aptitude for the learning it takes to master lots of different tools and technologies.
  • Your approach to coding and ability to solve complex technical problems.
  • How you communicate and collaborate with others.
  • Your enthusiasm for tech and Capital One.

What’s in it for you

We invest in the growth of our people alongside our business. You will have extensive opportunities to learn and develop your career, including access to up to £5,000 in funding for external qualifications.

In addition to career development, our comprehensive benefits package is designed to grow with you, ensuring your wellbeing is prioritised at every stage of your career:

  • Wealth & Future: Competitive pension and performance-based bonus schemes
  • Holidays: Start with 25 days of annual leave, increasing with tenure. Need more? You have the option to buy 5 additional days.
  • Health: Access premium care through our private medical insurance.
  • Family Support: We champion your milestones with enhanced parental leave.

The Recruitment Process

  • Step 1: Apply! We don’t screen CV’s so there’s no need to tailor your CV or attach a cover letter. If you meet the eligibility criteria you will be sent online testing to complete, assessing the core skills required for the role. As we recruit on a rolling basis, we recommend applying as soon as you can.
  • Step 2: One-way video interview, looking at your motivations for the role and some examples where you’ve shown the soft skills we’re looking for.
  • Step 3: Virtual assessment day, consisting of a pair programming exercise and a presentation and strengths based interview.
  • Step 4: In-person final interview with one of our Senior Software Engineering Managers, and the opportunity to look around our office.

What you should know about how we recruit

We pride ourselves on hiring the best people, not the same people. Building diverse and inclusive teams is the right thing to do and the smart thing to do. We want to work with top talent: whoever you are, whatever you look like, wherever you come from. We know it’s about what you do, not just what you say. That’s why we make our recruitment process fair and accessible.

We value diversity, inclusion and belonging at our core. We empower our associates to do great work by creating an inclusive culture - one that values diverse perspectives, fosters collaboration and encourages innovative ideas - and a place where associates of all backgrounds can thrive by bringing their most authentic selves to work. We call this our Culture of Belonging, and it rests at the heart of our business.

Our associate-led Business Resource Groups were created to help support our diverse population and include over 10 groups across our offices. Because each Business Resource Group is as unique as the population it serves, they offer a range of activities, networking opportunities, special events and learning programmes to associates.

Sponsorship

We’re able to sponsor if you currently have the right to work in the UK (including student/graduate visas).
