Anna Gresty

Early Careers Specialist

Q1: Having started your own journey at Bentley as a trainee, how has that experience helped you connect with and support today's trainees?

Having been a trainee myself, I remember exactly what it feels like to start a new role, meet new people and navigate a large organisation for the first time. That experience helps me put myself in our trainees' shoes and understand the challenges they might face. I know how valuable it is to have someone available to answer questions, offer guidance and provide reassurance, so I try to be that source of support for our current apprentices, graduates and industrial placements throughout their journey.

Q2: You've just completed your first year in the Early Careers team. Looking back, what has been the most rewarding part of the role?

The most rewarding part has been welcoming new apprentices, graduates and industrial placements into the business and helping them settle into life at Bentley. Seeing people arrive on day one and then quickly grow in confidence, build connections and start making an impact in their teams is incredibly rewarding. It is great to know that the work we do plays a part in shaping their experience from the very beginning.

Q3: Over the past year, what have you learned about developing and nurturing early career talent?

I have learned that everyone develops differently. Some people settle in quickly, while others need a little more support and encouragement to build confidence. Creating opportunities for people to learn, ask questions and gain exposure to different areas of the business is really important. I have also learned that small things, such as regular check-ins, recognition and having a supportive network, can make a huge difference to someone's experience and development.

Q5: What advice would you give to someone joining Bentley as a trainee or considering an early careers opportunity with us?

Make the most of every opportunity that comes your way. Be curious, ask questions and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Bentley is full of knowledgeable and supportive people who are willing to help you learn and grow. Building relationships across the business and getting involved in activities beyond your day-to-day role can really enhance your experience and help you develop both personally and professionally.

For anyone considering an early careers opportunity with Bentley, I would say it's a great place to start your career. You will be given real responsibility from the beginning, have opportunities to learn from experts across the business and be supported throughout your development. If you are willing to get involved and make the most of the opportunities available, you will get a huge amount out of the experience.

Q6: What are you most looking forward to as you continue your journey in the Early Careers team, and what are your aspirations for the future?

I am excited to continue developing our Early Careers programmes and creating positive experiences for future trainees joining Bentley. Every year brings new opportunities to improve what we do and find new ways to support young people starting their careers.

For me, I would like to continue growing within Early Careers, building on what I have learned over the past year and continuing to create positive experiences for our apprentices, graduates and industrial placements. It's a role I am really passionate about, and I am excited to see where that journey takes me.
