Diversity & Inclusion

Equity leads to inclusion and belonging. This means we give our colleagues what they need to succeed and creates an equal platform to hear from a broad range of voices. This helps us make the most of our people’s potential to provide the best possible outcomes for clients and deliver our purpose: together, building better futures.

"One of our responsibilities as an employer is to do our part to remove inequities in the workplace. To create an environment that provides rewarding careers where everyone can be themselves and thrive. And that benefits everyone - not just us as individuals, but also our colleagues, our clients and I’d like to think, quite possibly, our families and friends too."

Gill Tait, Staff Partner

Together, building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive future.

Our DEI Vision

We’re committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment here at Hymans. This will benefit our people, clients and customers in so many ways.

Delivering our vision

Making our vision a reality is something we really care about and not something we’re willing to leave to chance. And when it comes to diversity, equity and inclusion, we know there’ll always be more to do, and we can always be better. That’s why diversity, equity and inclusion is one of our top strategic imperatives, giving it prominence amongst our other business goals, and why we’ve made sure our governance framework has inclusivity at its heart.

Our aims

A commitment to fairness and representation

We want everyone working with or for Hymans Robertson to be treated fairly through equity. We’re tenacious and we’re always learning: we may make mistakes, but they help us grow. Our culture of inclusion and fairness fosters belonging and empowers our people to develop rewarding careers. We believe fairness and representation are crucial to the future success of our people, our clients and our firm.

Our ambitions

Equity underpins our work. We want everyone we work with to see themselves reflected in the firm. We want to represent our local communities. It’s not only the right thing to do, but equity creates an environment that benefits everyone. Our people thrive in rewarding careers, our clients benefit from long-term relationships and excellent outcomes, and our communities flourish too.

Progressing our ambitions

We’re always learning and pushing ourselves to move forward. Currently, our focus is:

  • understanding equity and how it leads to inclusion and belonging in a supportive environment, where everyone understands and acknowledges the experiences of others to inspire change
  • our leaders being exemplary role models
  • extending our career opportunities to include school leavers
  • creating rewarding careers with supportive people management, equity of opportunities and mentoring
  • building internal networks that support communities to thrive
  • increasing the diversity of our candidate pools through inclusive recruitment
  • partnering with external experts to support learning and progress our ambitions, with a focus on intersectionality.

Empowerment and allyship

Encouraging our people to understand and acknowledge the experience of others empowers them to be the best agents for change. Diversity, equity and inclusion training is mandatory, but we encourage everyone to move beyond this to centre these principles in their working lives.

We expect:

  • on-going development through continuous learning opportunities
  • our people to centre equity and inclusion in all their work
  • our leaders to have specific priorities related to diversity.
  • Our allyship programme provides the tools our staff need to be active allies. We continue to grow our ally numbers, including senior leaders, so we can support others.
