Application Process

Step 1

Online Application We want to make the process as straightforward as possible. The first thing you'll need to do is research our opportunities available to you and apply (remember, you are only able to apply for one programme).

Before hitting the apply button please ensure that the device you are applying on has connection to the internet, microphone and webcam access. (You’ll need these later in the process).

When answering any of our questions during the application stage, please read carefully the guidance notes shown next to the question you are being asked. You'll be asked whether you have a disability or long-term health condition. If yes, we'll ask whether you need any reasonable adjustments to support you with your application. You'll also move straight to the video interview stage, in line with our commitment to the guaranteed interview scheme for those with a disability or long-term health condition.

Step 2

Games Based Assessment There will be 4 games to play, taking 15 minutes in total to complete. These fun games can be played on your phone, laptop or desktop and will help us to understand you a little better. You’ll learn about yourself too as you will receive feedback after you’ve completed them.

The games contain a series of Games-based Psychometric Assessments, these will measure your cognitive skills, behavioural preferences, numerical and abstract reasoning abilities.  An example of this would be, how you overcome challenges and make decisions. A decision on your outcome to move through to the next stage will be received shortly after completion.

Step 3

Video Interview We’ll ask you to record your responses to a variety of questions mapping to our Tesco Leadership behaviours. To help you prepare we’ve detailed these behaviours in our hints and tips section below.

Our video interviews are assessed by AI. Applicants with high recommended scores will progress directly to the next stage, whilst the video interviews of all other applicants may be subjected to human review. This review may lead to a slight delay in sending your feedback.

The algorithm has been designed and tested to be objective, and to focus on the things that are important to the job role you’ve applied to. It has been, and continues to be, tested for bias.

Step 4

Virtual Discovery Centre The final stage of our recruitment process is a Virtual Discovery Centre. The day has been designed for you to learn more about Tesco as a business. You’ll explore topics at the heart of everything we do throughout the exercises you will take part in.

The day will consist of working in groups and individually, on a variety of topics that help you learn even more about the work we do. Due to the success and feedback we have received from candidates over the previous year, our Discovery Centres will be held virtually. We will help all invited candidates to understand what to expect on the day, by holding a group coaching call.

Step 5

Outcomes After you’ve taken part in the Discovery Centre we will let you know whether you’ve been successful. You will receive a phone call providing you with feedback whatever the outcome, which will be followed up with a written feedback report. We value your time and interest in Tesco and by providing you with in depth feedback we hope that this will help you on your career path, where ever that may take you.
