I’m currently a placement student working as a junior module test engineer in the Module Test department at ASMPT. Module testing is the process of independently testing hardware components or systems to ensure they function correctly within specified requirements and performance standards. Our team’s role is crucial in identifying and addressing potential issues early on, which helps prevent costly redesigns and streamlines the development process.
In my role, I’m responsible for developing hardware module and life tests, contributing to the design of test plans, and collaborating with other departments to ensure smooth cross-functional workflows. I also handle data collection, organisation, and analysis, and regularly prepare and present test reports to share findings.
So far, the experience has been both enjoyable and diverse. Each day presents something new, making the work dynamic and exciting, which has really enhanced my learning and growth in this field.
My favourite part of working at ASMPT is the work culture and environment, everyone here is incredibly helpful, kind and positive, and I feel truly supported. It’s a great environment for me as a student, fostering both personal and professional growth.
What I enjoy most about my role is being part of such an amazing team. We’re a diverse group with different cultural backgrounds, which makes our collaboration unique and enriching. Our team is built on a strong foundation in engineering, with specialists from various disciplines, creating a highly collaborative and idea-sharing atmosphere. This learning environment allows me to continuously grow, gain valuable insights, and broaden my perspective.
I’m given plenty of room to be innovative and take initiative in my role. I’ve had numerous opportunities to take responsibility and ownership of the projects I work on. This level of trust and independence allows me to contribute meaningfully while developing my problem-solving and decision-making skills. It’s been a great way to learn and grow while making a real impact.

Additionally, the company offers a variety of sports and social clubs that regularly host events, such as the summer party. These activities not only provide a fun break from work but also help strengthen team bonds, creating a sense of community and balance between professional and personal life.
I'm able to work flexibly, with the privilege of working from home when needed. I also benefit from a discounted membership at a local gym, exclusive to ASMPT employees. Additionally, we have a subsidised canteen that serves great food, along with many other perks. These benefits really set ASMPT apart from other companies and create a supportive and rewarding work environment.

In this placement, I’m able to apply the theoretical knowledge I've gained at university in a practical, hands-on way. I get to see how my skills are used in real industry settings. As a mechanical engineering student, I’ve been able to strengthen my knowledge in areas like CAD design for assembly and manufacturing, data processing and analysis, programming, communication, presenting, project management, and commercial awareness. This experience has really helped solidify my academic learning.
Absolutely. This placement is allowing me to develop a wide range of skills that are highly attractive to future employers. By gaining hands-on experience in a professional setting, I'm improving my technical abilities, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, all of which are essential in the industry. Additionally, working on real-world projects and taking ownership of tasks gives me a competitive edge as I prepare for the job market after graduation. ASMPT also offers a retention scheme for its placement students, which adds further value by potentially securing future opportunities with the company, making this experience even more beneficial for my long-term career prospects
