About the role

We currently have an opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to join our engineering team in either our York, Manchester, Birmingham or Reading offices from September 2024. This position within our MEP engineering team will suit a committed and ambitious Electrical Engineer who can demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to play their part in a dynamic high-performance team.

The team you will be joining is spilt between Electrification and Plant (E&P) / Distribution and Plant (D&P) and Building Services. E&P/ D&P is usually related to our railway work and covers the design of points heating, signal power supplies, lighting (junction, walkway), level crossings and general low voltage (<1000V) supplies to railway assets.  Our main projects in this area are; TRUe, Signal Power Supply renewals, PSU.

Building Services can also be railway related but also non rail and covers all electrical (and mechanical) services to a large building including; lighting, power, cable/pipe containment, fire detection/alarm, intruder alarm (as well as mechanical services such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water supplies/distribution, above ground drainage).

Main Duties

  • Produce 2D and 3D CAD drawings including layouts, schematics and details under the supervision of the Senior Modeller
  • Produce electrical calculations
  • Input to and produce electrical specifications
  • Work as part of a project delivering electrical outline and detailed designs for a range of railway and non-railway projects

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • An interest in design and working in a design environment
  • A self-motivated team player
  • Able to build and maintain good relationships with engineers from other internal discipline teams to promote good inter-discipline working relationships and a “One Team” ethos.
  • Experience in the use of Amtech, MicroStation and Relux Design Software. (Training will be provided)
  • Electrical Engineering degree
