The Safety and Reliability Department are involved in the development of all the Products MBDA produces. We are responsible for providing our customers with the evidence and assurance that our Products meet the required levels of reliability and safety for those using them.
As an Undergraduate Engineer, you will develop the engineering skills needed to influence the safety and reliability aspects of technically complex and niche products. This will include gaining understanding and experience of good practices and learning how to optimise the effort committed to these activities. An important aspect of this will be a focus on balancing safety against the inherently lethal attributes required of complex weapon systems.
In this role you will learn to balance time and cost constraints to construct safety and reliability arguments, supported by appropriate evidence. To do this, you will need to understand the system and its operating context, so that you can decide what type of evidence will most efficiently show that the identified hazards and risks have been mitigated to the customer’s satisfaction. This will involve learning and exploiting a range of techniques and approaches that can be combined into a compelling safety and/or reliability narrative.
The role is office-based, though some travel could be involved. A mixture of Microsoft Office software and specialist Safety and Reliability software will be used.
Working towards a degree in a technical or engineering-related field, such as Electronics, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Physics, with the expectation of achieving a minimum of 2:2.
