Internship Overview

Join us on an internship for 10 weeks within one of our Quant focused business areas. Immerse yourself in our work and culture and gain invaluable insights with this longer internship. 1-2 year targeted, fast-track programme focused on developing specialist technical expertise.

Markets Quantitative Analytics (Markets QA)

Markets Quantitative Analytics develops the models, data science and insights that underpin trading, risk management and decision-making across Global Markets. By combining quantitative research, technology and market expertise, the team automates strategies, enhances analytics and delivers scalable solutions that improve franchise performance.

Risk Quantitative Analytics (Risk QA)

Risk Quantitative Analytics develops the models, analytics and technology that enable Barclays to measure, manage and optimise financial risk across the firm. By combining quantitative research and software engineering, the team delivers data-driven insights and scalable solutions that support decision-making, regulatory compliance and risk management.

Electronic Trading (eTrading)

Markets Electronic develops, operates and governs Barclays' global electronic trading capabilities, delivering the platforms, algorithms, quantitative models, client connectivity and automation that enable clients to trade seamlessly across asset classes at scale. The team combines trading, quantitative research, data science, technology, and risk control expertise to drive revenue growth, market-making, execution quality, resilience and innovation across Global Markets' eTrading franchise.

Purpose of the Role

To participate in the day-to-day activities of the markets division providing insights and expertise that help senior colleagues make informed decisions, develop new products and services, and identify new market opportunities.

Accountabilities

  • Execution of small research projects, research to support strategic decision making, preparation of presentations and reports to communicate research findings, collaboration with senior management to implement research findings for the global markets division.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.
  • Participation in training and development programmes to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Identification of opportunities, development of business cases, management of the deployment and launch of new products and services for the global markets division.
  • Management of client relationships and provision of customer service support to clients and customers, under steadily decreasing supervision, responding to questions about products and services, processing of transactions.
  • Management of the development and implementation of financial models and strategies that support in decision making in the global markets division.
  • Training and mentoring of junior colleagues.

  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.

Who we're looking for

To be considered for this programme, you must be motivated and curious and working towards a PhD or Master’s in a technical discipline such as statistics, computer science, mathematics, physics, quantitative finance, operations research or similar.

Ideally, you'll have a GPA of 3.2 or above. You'll have mathematical and programming skills (ideally in Java, C++, or Python) along with a knack for logical thinking and creative problem solving. We value resourcefulness, teamwork, enthusiasm and an entrepreneurial spirt, all of which might be showcased through your involvement in extracurricular activities
