Cai Jones

I studied Architecture at the University of Cardiff and have a BSc in Architecture as a result. I am now a Graduate Design Manager at Morgans Sindall Construction, and have been with the company for just over a year now. Initially, I had never heard of Design Management, until I saw Morgan Sindall being advertised and thought why not try my luck. I was offered 2 weeks work experience as there were no roles available at the time, and after the first week I instantly knew that this was the career path I wanted to follow. I then applied for the graduate scheme a couple months later, and haven’t looked back since!

My degree has definitely helped with the attention to detail I give to all tasks at Morgan Sindall, and has definitely given me a great foundation to build on in the industry. Skills such as analysing plans, sections and elevations have definitely helped me progress quicker due to having previous knowledge, however the skills and lessons learnt since being with Morgan Sindall have been second to none. I’ve had many development opportunities through my job, such as attending workshops with subcontractor to know the ins and outs of what really happens on site. I’ve also been fortunate enough to gain knowledge and skill through working closely with Senior Management on a daily basis, which has really helped me develop as a Design Manager.

Finally, the Grad Scheme. I can’t express enough how beneficial being on such a scheme is as it really puts into perspective that I’m not alone on this journey. It has helped me gain confidence in my role, and has also taught me a lot about myself and how to work with others. I’ve met some really amazing people through the Graduate Scheme, and we’re not even half way there! I’m really excited for what’s to come.

My number one piece of advice for someone who’s considering applying for the Scheme is that you have nothing to lose. Even if your uncertain about the career path you want to follow, Morgan Sindall will do their best to guide you and assist you to wherever you want to go. You’re in safe hands!
