FAQs

What is the recruitment process?

Our application process is simple. We feel we can best get to know you through conversations, so we won’t ask you to undertake any psychometric tests or attend an assessment centre. If you are interested:

  1. Apply online by uploading your CV and covering letter
  2. First round interview
  3. Second round interview with a member of HR and a representative from across the business
  4. Final round interview with senior management

Interviews are currently taking place remotely over Zoom.

How can I prepare for the interview process?

We want to get the best out of you in your interview. You know what qualities and skills you bring to us, so make sure you tell us. We need to be sure you are actually interested in the different facets of the role so researching and showing an enthusiasm for the asset finance industry, our projects, our clients and what the graduate programme entails is a must.

Showing how you stand out from the crowd can be tough, so have a think before the interview about achievements and experiences that make you the best person for the job.

Our company values are very important to us, and we’re always encouraging people to live and demonstrate them - so be prepared to talk about these in your interview.

Where will I be based?

All of our graduates will be based out of the London office. As a graduate, you will be based out of our London HQ office with the opportunity to work flexibly and in a hybrid way. During the initial training period, you will be asked to be in the office on certain days. There may be future opportunities to be seconded to one of our US, Australia or New Zealand locations, depending on your role.

What does the graduate programme training involve?

All graduates start with a training programme lasting around 10-12 weeks. After an action-packed first week learning all about our company and the industry, you’ll move away from training in the traditional sense and into a more dynamic learning environment.

What learning and development opportunities are there at Alfa?

Employees can use up to 5 paid days per year to focus on their own learning and development. Our Learning and Development (L&D) team provides a wide-ranging suite of learning opportunities for all employees to learn at a pace they are comfortable with.

Whether you are looking to attend an internal course or workshop, wish to pursue external studies or attend an industry conference - Alfa will support you throughout every step of your learning journey. Throughout your career, our performance and development process will give you formal feedback about your work and identify development needs.

The process lets you know how you are progressing, where you are particularly strong, and where you should be channelling your efforts. This enables you to manage the pace and direction of your own career. Your manager will provide regular support and advice to help you realise your potential, and be the best you can be.

How much time will I spend coding?

It’s important to understand that this is not a software engineering role, however, every new joiner at Alfa starts off by learning our product from the inside-out; that means software development. So, during your initial training, you will learn the fundamentals of programming. Whilst working across the Consulting, Technical and Functional you will be exposed to other technical aspects such as Java development, analysis and design - becoming proficient in Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Database design SQL (specifically PostgreSQL), Cloud (specifically AWS), React, API design with REST, GraphQL, and asynchronous events. Together we’ll build your skills in solution engineering and architecture, automated testing, performant design and performance analysis.

How will I get to know my colleagues?

We are a pretty social bunch at Alfa. We have regular social events, quarterly company meetings and an annual conference, which often takes place abroad. When office work resumes, we have a rooftop café that serves top-quality coffee and snacks, and is a great place to have casual meetings or catch up with colleagues and friends. There are also a number of communities you can get involved with from day one, including the Green Team, CSR, Women’s, Inclusion and Diversity, Racial Equity  and LGBTQ+ communities to name a few.
