I joined PA as an intern in Summer 2023 before starting full-time as a graduate in October 2024. I work within the Mechanical Engineering capability, where most of my projects are focused on Health and Life Sciences, which includes working on the development of medical devices and instruments. During my time at PA, I’ve had the opportunity to apply engineering skills I gained at university, such as CAD modelling and prototyping, to real-world projects such as designing various components and building test rigs.
I enjoy working with the wide variety of great and supportive people in the GITC. Everyone is very happy to help and always willing to share advice or help tackle challenges. Outside of work, Life at PA offers a range of interesting social activities and networks. Some of my highlights from this include going gliding for the first time and playing for PA FC.
When I joined PA, I started on a project which required a deep understanding of microfluidics, an area I had previously not encountered before. Additionally, my role required me to communicate my progress and findings clearly and effectively to the client. I solved this by reading and understanding some of the historical work PA has done in this field and reaching out to experienced people on the team to gain a better understanding of the subject.
Get involved as much as possible! Take the initiative to reach out and arrange chats with people who work or have worked on projects that interest you and don’t be afraid of asking questions. During your time at PA, asking for feedback (whether formal or informal) is a great way to improve your engineering and consulting skills.
