We currently have an opportunity for a Graduate Marine Ecologist within our aquatics team based in Southampton. The successful person will become part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities.

As a Marine Ecologist you will be working on a range of projects, including a number of high profile national infrastructure developments. You will work as part of a team, helping to plan and deliver marine monitoring programmes on a range of projects.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of undertaking a wide range of marine ecological surveys, including fisheries, benthic, water quality and plankton surveys. The candidate will be well versed with writing up technical reports and should be capable of handling and analysing large biological datasets. The candidate will have a good understanding of marine and coastal pressures, and a working knowledge of the relevant UK legislation.

A flexible approach to working is a must, as there will be a requirement for you to travel within the UK.

Key responsibilities:

  • Delivery of marine ecology surveys
  • Plan and coordinate survey logistics
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Technical report writing & support other business functions, including freshwater work.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • At least BSc in a related discipline (marine/environmental science)
  • Practical marine surveys skills (boat and lab work)
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical reports
  • Full driving licence.

Desired:

  • Personal survival skills training
  • Post graduate qualification in a related discipline
  • Membership of a relevant professional body & the ability to undertake statistical analysis of data (e.g. use of packages such as PRIMER).
