Matthew Turner

Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice (Drainage)

What is your name and role at Jacobs?

My name is Matthew Turner, I am a Year 4 Civil Engineering Degree Apprentice

How long have you worked for Jacobs?

I have worked for Jacobs since October 2024 after undergoing a Tupe process with Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) from WSP.

Describe your role and day-to-day work?

On a day-to-day, I am involved in outputting flood mitigation schemes in my local area in Hertfordshire on behalf of HCC. This includes the project management of multiple projects including being lead designer to help investigate, mitigate and future proof, flood systems across the county.

What have you enjoyed about the Apprenticeship Programme?

The apprenticeship programme has been the best choice I have made when considering my career. I have been exposed to such a range of opportunities to help expand my knowledge and technical ability across the civil engineering industry. It has helped me to highlight which area of such a broad industry interests me, but also challenging me to my full potential everyday. No project or day is the same!

What’s your Top Tip for those considering an apprenticeship?

When considering an apprenticeship, you should always be open minded and brave. You will learn so many skills and will grow so much, so believe in yourself and your ability, know you can do this!
