My name is Luqman Ismail, and I am in the second year of my Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship working within the Tunnelling and Ground Engineering team at Jacobs. My current role involves the writing of geotechnical reports across multiple stages of design such as desk studies, ground investigation reports and geotechnical design reports. I have also been involved in detailed design within highways projects including retaining walls, sign foundations and earthwork repairs. Alongside this, as part of my apprenticeship I am studying towards a BEng in Civil and Infrastructure Engineering at The University of Warwick.
Since September 2023.
My colleagues at Jacobs supported me in entering an early careers competition, which I was delighted to win. Following this, I was given the opportunity to attend the Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) Annual Conference at the ICE headquarters in London. The conference was inspiring and allowed me to expand my professional network.
Inclusive, dynamic, supportive.
I believe Jacobs is a fantastic place to start a career, mainly because of the support that they invest into their early career professionals – especially degree apprentices. So far in my role, I have worked on diverse projects across the UK, developing my knowledge of engineering, various software, and technical report writing. I am continuously learning and benefitting from my colleagues who are always ready to share their valuable experience. This support extends to my studies, as my team provides the flexibility to meet my university commitments, ensuring I can apply my academic learning directly back into my work.
