Whether your interests lie in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering, our Engineering Year in Industry Internship offers a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience within SSE's Thermal business.

Designed for students looking to complete a year in industry as part of their degree, this 12-month internship will help you develop practical engineering skills, apply your learning in a real-world environment and build valuable experience before returning to university to complete your studies.

What is the role?

At SSE, we're investing in the people, infrastructure and engineering expertise needed to support the energy system of the future.

You'll spend 12 months working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, supporting a range of engineering, asset management and project activities across our Thermal business.

Depending on the team you join, you could be involved in engineering projects, technical problem-solving, asset improvement initiatives, maintenance activities or project delivery work. This is an opportunity to see how engineering principles are applied in a large, complex operational business while contributing to the delivery of safe, reliable and efficient energy infrastructure.

Alongside meaningful project experience, you'll benefit from mentoring, structured development opportunities and support from experienced colleagues across SSE.

What We're Looking For

You'll be studying towards a degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

This opportunity is intended for students who are currently in the second or third year of their degree and are looking to undertake a 12-month year in industry internship as part of their university course. You'll be expected to return to university to complete your studies following the internship.

We're looking for students who are excited by the opportunity to develop their engineering knowledge while gaining valuable industry experience.

You'll likely be someone who:

• Enjoys applying your academic learning to real-world challenges and finding practical solutions to technical problems.
• Has a genuine interest in engineering and is curious about how large-scale infrastructure and complex systems are designed, maintained and improved.
• Is eager to learn, develop new skills and make the most of opportunities to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment.
• Works well with others, building positive relationships and collaborating effectively with colleagues from a range of technical and non-technical backgrounds.
• Demonstrates initiative, a positive attitude and a willingness to take ownership of your work, embracing new challenges and experiences with enthusiasm.
