The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Urban Drainage Modeller in our Birmingham office, where you will support projects that improve river health, reduce flooding and pollution, and help clients respond to complex wastewater network challenges.

Working with major regulated water companies across the UK and Ireland, Stantec’s wastewater network modelling discipline has developed a reputation as one of the industry leaders. You will join a Birmingham-based team of around 10, working closely with civil engineering, mechanical and electrical colleagues to deliver integrated solutions across the water sector.

As part of a multidisciplinary service, we engage with projects from conception through to delivery, driving innovation and excellence in everything we do. The variety in our work ensures our teams develop a broad skillset, with the opportunity to support programmes including WINEP, flooding, growth and outline design projects, primarily for Severn Trent. Your work will contribute to improving water quality, managing urban pollution and reducing the impact of flooding on people and communities.

Working alongside senior wastewater network modellers, you will support wastewater hydraulic modelling and model building, optioneering, feasibility and outline design activities. You will undertake modelling tasks using specialist software, communicate with the wider team, complete quality assurance and documentation, grow your understanding of the water industry, and begin your chartership journey.

About The Role

By joining our Urban Drainage Modelling team, you will support projects that improve river health, reduce flooding and pollution, and help our clients make better-informed decisions about wastewater network performance. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking wastewater hydraulic modelling and model-building tasks using specialist software.
  • Supporting optioneering, feasibility and outline design projects for regulated water clients.
  • Using modelling outputs to help identify solutions that reduce flooding, pollution and storm overflow impacts.
  • Communicating with the wider project team and collaborating with civil, mechanical and electrical colleagues.
  • Completing quality assurance checks, documentation and technical inputs to support robust project delivery.
  • Building your understanding of the water industry and how different disciplines contribute to successful project outcomes.

We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. This role will support your professional development towards CIWEM or ICE, depending on your educational background and chosen pathway.

Your Impact

This role will help deliver better outcomes for communities and the environment by contributing to projects that improve river health, reduce flooding and pollution, and support sustainable growth. Your work will help clients understand wastewater network performance, identify risks and develop solutions that protect people, places and the natural environment.
