We deal with today’s challenges, but also keep a fairer, better tomorrow in sight, looking at how we deliver clean growth, support radical changes in our economy and meet the needs of future communities.

The Opportunity

Join our 2027 Graduate Programme as a Graduate Civil Engineer in our Leeds office, where you will support the delivery of major water-sector projects for high-profile clients, including Yorkshire Water.

As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will join a local team of around 25 to 30 people and work as part of an integrated regional team of around 150 supporting the Yorkshire Water framework. You will collaborate closely with CAD, geotechnical, hydraulic modelling, structural, planning and environmental colleagues to develop well-rounded solutions in a multidisciplinary environment.

The Yorkshire operation’s primary framework is the Strategic Planning Partner contract with Yorkshire Water, through which Stantec provides advisory and engineering consultancy services across Yorkshire Water’s project work and operations. The team works collaboratively with Yorkshire Water’s Asset Planning and Capital Delivery teams, primarily in the strategy, concept and definition stages, and also supports specialist modelling and storm overflow programmes focused on cleaner water environments.

About The Role

Working as part of a friendly and collaborative project team, you will help solve engineering problems and support the development of optimised solutions for Yorkshire Water. Your work will involve using design software and data to carry out engineering calculations, analyse information, identify trends, communicate with colleagues and stakeholders, and attend meetings or site visits where needed. Your core responsibilities include:

  • Solving engineering problems and supporting the development of practical water-sector solutions.
  • Using design software and engineering skills to carry out calculations and design work.
  • Working closely with data, including using tools such as Excel to identify trends and patterns.
  • Collaborating with CAD, geotechnical, hydraulic modelling, structural, planning and environmental colleagues.
  • Communicating with clients, colleagues and wider stakeholders to help keep projects moving.
  • Taking opportunities to attend meetings and site visits to gather information and build practical project understanding.

We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. The professional progression plan for this role will support you towards ICE and/or CIWEM chartership.

Your Impact

This role will help deliver better outcomes for communities and the environment by supporting Yorkshire Water and other water-sector projects that respond to the challenges facing the industry. Your work will contribute to cleaner water environments, storm overflow improvements and the development of optimised solutions using the TOTEX and carbon reduction hierarchies.
