The Opportunity

Join our 2027 (Autumn) Graduate Programme as a Graduate Major Infrastructure Planner in our Southampton office, where you'll be part of a market-leading Community Development discipline.

As a Stantec graduate, you will collaborate with your team and fellow graduates, developing your town planning expertise within an exciting and creative interdisciplinary environment.

You will be working alongside your fellow graduates and collaborating with other Stantec teams. This role will equip you with technical knowledge in infrastructure planning, while also giving you an understanding of the broader services offered by Stantec.

You'll be involved in various tasks with the potential to work on Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) as well as ‘local planning’ projects, undertaking work including planning assessments, managing pre-application processes, engagement with stakeholders and helping to promote development proposals.

You'll also gain experience assisting with project coordination, research, site appraisals, and planning documents. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to policy compliance, scheme development and sit and route selection work, and network building within and outside the company.

Clients include a broad range of finance-backed promoters and developers, utility companies and national operators, for which you'll be involved in renewable energy, (e.g solar and wind farms) battery storage, water projects (e.g. water recycling, reservoirs, desalination plants), carbon capture and storage and transport projects.

You will join a supportive team with exciting career opportunities, have great client exposure and professional development and work in an innovative and exciting multi-disciplinary environment.

About The Role

Day to day, you'll be:

  • Undertaking planning research and site selection appraisals to support project development.
  • Coordination of stakeholder engagement and preparing information
  • Assisting with the preparation and submission of planning applications.
  • Supporting community engagement and stakeholder consultation activities.
  • Contributing to the promotion of local plans and planning policy responses.
  • Working on a diverse range of major infrastructure projects

We are committed to supporting employees in achieving relevant professional qualifications and accreditation. The applicable professional qualification for this role is with the The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).

Your Impact

This role will help deliver sustainable, resilient infrastructure and community developments that create lasting benefits for people, places and the environment. Working across a range of projects, you will support the planning, design and delivery of infrastructure solutions that enhance communities, promote sustainable growth and improve quality of life.

Your work will contribute to addressing key challenges such as climate resilience, resource efficiency and environmental stewardship, helping clients deliver innovative, future-ready solutions that meet the needs of both local communities and wider society.
