The Programme

We are also looking for technical graduates to join our team of engineers as part of the Technical Graduate Programme. As a technical graduate, you will be enrolled in a 2-year graduate programme, but without the rotations, and with a distinct focus on the engineering side of our business. You will be working closely with our experienced engineers and senior management on improving the UK rail system in divisions such as Rail Infrastructure, Rail Services or Rail Urban. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop your skills and to work towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.

Purpose of the Role

To work within a small signalling team to plan and develop signalling works associated with Track Renewals in accordance with Network and Company Standards, processes and procedures and meet the company and client’s quality expectations. To ensure the integration of E&P and Signalling work into the plans and liaise regularly with the development/client services teams to ensure schemes are suitably developed through the early GRIP stages. To be a contact within the team for signalling and E&P (Points Heating and Signalling Power) matters. Working alongside the Development and Design Interface Manager to ensure a thorough handover of schemes from the development stage to the delivery teams for construction and commissioning. Planning and developing a positive environment for the safe, compliant and timely delivery of cost effective schemes.

To support the management of a programme of design support works, including correlation, power assessments, cable surveys and cable route/UTX surveys as required supporting the design team in the timely delivery of approved design.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability

  • To support the signalling development & DI manager in planning and developing Track Renewals signalling and associated electrification works in a manner that complies with all best practices, Network and Company Standards, processes and procedures and meet the company and client’s quality expectations.
  • Liaise with the client services and development teams to provide signalling and E&P input for the staging and development of schemes.
  • In close working relationship with the Production teams, the Assistant Development Engineer will support the Signalling Development Manager who is responsible for the handover of schemes to the delivery teams in line with the Stagegate process.
  • Ensure staff attitudes to personal safety and all requirements to the Health & Safety at Work regulations are paramount, especially aspects of the local Policy Statement for which the jobholder is directly responsible.
  • Adopt systems of planning, reporting progress and inspection to ensure works are implemented and completed to time, cost and quality.
  • Adopt a system of surveillances to monitor and demonstrate compliance with current requirements in respect of system and occupational safety and performance, thereby furthering the Company’s objective to meet the quality system requirements.
  • Ensure systems are in place for preparation and submission of work package plans and programme reports to clients for the timely implementation of agreed projects to required standards.
