MPhys Physics, University of Manchester
I was looking for new skills I could develop after university and I wanted to work in software development but I had little prior experience, so the opportunity to learn and then work in that industry appealed to me greatly.
The interview process was very friendly and surprisingly involved. I certainly didn't expect the tours and presentations leading up to my in-person interview. Dorset Software was also very accommodating and helpful with travel to and from the interview.
The training was very enjoyable. The material covered was very varied and it was fun to work through it alongside my fellow graduates. We had plenty of trainers helping us with our work, and the work itself was interesting and thought provoking.
After a few years of working on client projects, I am currently working as part of the training team where I am writing and delivering new training courses for our incoming graduate developers.
The social environment at Dorset Software is a nice middle ground between university society culture and modern office social environments. The after-work groups and clubs cover all sorts of hobbies so it’s always possible to find a friendly group of like-minded people. All of my peers have been very friendly and encouraging.
Don’t be afraid to ask any questions you have. There are always people willing to listen and help you out whenever you need (also enjoy the free snacks!).
