This role starts in early September 2024, and is based in Plymouth on a project site in the Defence sector within our Consult engine.
Vital to protecting the nation, defence and security projects require a forward-looking and knowledgeable delivery team to lead the way. At Mace, we’re a trusted ally to the UK sector, and act as an agile partner to deliver complex property and infrastructure programmes across the defence estate.
Our reach is vast. We work with international governments, police forces, court houses, military institutes and nuclear establishments. We support defence across the globe - from the Royal Navy to the British Army and Royal Air Force - helping these crucial institutions to both grow and serve. We deliver embassies, airports, research and data centres, working at the forefront of major programmes in highly secure locations. And we often work on projects while they are still in operation – like our recent work upgrading facilities used by service personnel and their families, as delivery partner for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation.
In our Consult engine, you’ll be part of a global think tank where innovation and sustainability take the lead. We collaborate closely with clients to understand their individual challenges, lending new ideas and fresh thinking to make strategic decisions and shape project directions. Although we often visit our projects, Consult is more about creative solutions than hardhats. If on-site action speaks to you more, our Construct engine might be your scene – check out the hands-on roles we have there, where you’ll be turning plans into reality on the ground.
In Project Management (Consultancy), you will support projects to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost, and quality requirements, coordinating with all relevant parties to understand and deliver project objectives set out in the project plans. You will also work towards gaining professional membership of a professional association, fully funded and supported by us. Depending on your existing qualifications and your career goals, options include the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the Association of Project Management (APM), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), or the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

As our projects are spread across different locations, your work base will be flexible, and travel may be required to various project sites or Mace offices. It’s therefore important to have a positive and flexible approach towards travel.
