As an Apprentice Planner, you will play a key role in supporting the planning and delivery of large-scale civil engineering projects. Working alongside experienced planners, engineers, and project managers, you will learn how to develop, monitor, and maintain project programmes that help ensure our works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

This role is ideal for someone starting their career in construction who is eager to learn, detail‑oriented, and interested in how complex projects are coordinated from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, updating, and maintenance of project programmes using industry‑standard planning software.
  • Work with the planning team to gather progress information from site teams and update schedules accordingly.
  • Help identify potential delays, risks, and opportunities within the programme and support the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Support the creation of short‑term lookahead programmes and weekly planning outputs for site teams.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, dashboards, and planning presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Learn how to analyse construction sequences, methods, and productivity to support accurate planning.
  • Attend site visits to understand construction activities, constraints, and progress.
  • Assist in maintaining planning documentation, including method statements, phasing plans, and logistics information.
  • Collaborate with engineers, commercial teams, and project managers to ensure planning information is accurate and aligned with project objectives.
  • Participate in training, mentoring, and development activities as part of your apprenticeship programme.

Qualifications

  • Hold a minimum of 3 A-levels or equivalent and five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9-4 or A-C including Maths, English and Science.
  • Team focused with an ability to communicate and build strong relationships with people at all levels.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change (shift work and travel may be required).
  • You should have a strong work ethic and willingness to take responsibility for your academic and vocational development.
