	Trading and Research The roles of trading and research blend together at Jane Street. In either role, you’ll work to develop profitable trading strategies, signals, and execution methods. Most of our trading involves strategies that are developed jointly by a mix of traders and researchers. Sometimes trading requires fast, high-stakes decision-making, and that is done mainly by traders.
	Software Engineering Our software engineers and developers design and build the systems that run our firm and the tools our employees and clients use. They have deep experience with and love for technology. There’s no specific checklist of technical experience, since our work covers everything from machine learning to systems administration to programming language design. We’re looking for talented programmers with experience in any language—most of us arrived with little to no practical experience in OCaml.
	Technology Infrastructure Together, we keep the firm’s technical infrastructure and intellectual property safe; we build the physical network and server infrastructure in our offices and data centres; and we maintain a scalable and reliable platform for our trading floors and computing environments worldwide. Data centre and network engineering and information technology teams constitute our Technology Infrastructure department.
	Cybersecurity Our Cybersecurity team is a skilled group of programmers and security experts who are dedicated to keeping the firm safe. The scope of our work is wide-ranging and touches everything from software engineering and DevOps to risk analysis and security governance issues. We stay flexible and often tag in and out for each other based on our areas of expertise, so you’ll have chances for exposure to different types of work.
	Finance Finance is a constellation of many teams — including accounting, payroll, margin, risk, tax, banking and treasury — each key to the firm’s success. We collaborate closely with each other to continuously improve the firm’s critical functions. The specific skill set for each position varies, but all include strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and the desire to work in small, close-knit teams.
	Legal and Compliance Our Legal and Compliance department is a collegial group of lawyers and analysts with a meticulous commitment to protecting our colleagues as they focus on their daily work. We advise on everything from real-time questions about how and where we trade, to negotiating contracts and structuring our legal entities.
