WHAT IS ON OFFER

Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a two year Technical Support Chemist Graduate, working within our Group Laboratory Support Team at our Main Laboratory in Liverpool, UK.

During your programme, you will spend time in our different laboratories. We will equip you with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience in the wide range of analytical services and techniques we operate. You will provide support to our Group Laboratory Support Management Team and support on added value business projects. On successful completion of the programme, you will be assigned to one of our operational or technical laboratory business units.

The Graduate Programme consists of 4 phases:

  • Phase 1 – you will complete the company induction programme which is a mixture of classroom and practical based activities during which time you will learn about AHK: our values, what we do, who we are and where in the world we are.
  • Phase 2 – During this phase you will have exposure to the analysis carried out in the different departments within our state of the art laboratory. You will have a six month placement in either North America or China.
  • Phase 3 – In this consolidation phase you will be placed on a rotation within our different laboratories. You will receive on the job training within the team environment, you will be given your own work and projects to complete.
  • Phase 4 – The company is entrepreneurial and dynamic and we will expect you to want to drive your own career. Towards the end of the programme we will discuss what opportunities we have available that fit your strengths.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

To be successful at Alfred H Knight you will need to display the following:

Essential:

  • Independence: The ability to take initiative, lead projects and be proactive in prioritising a dynamic and diverse workload.
  • Interpersonal: Confidence in forming effective working relationships with a diverse range of people, including working inclusively and as part of a team.
  • Communication: Effective oral and written communication of ideas with an excellent command of English. You will be working with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Analytical: The ability to draw accurate and informative conclusions from detailed research without losing sight of the bigger picture.
  • Ambition: Must have ambitions to have a career in an Operational Environment.
  • Willingness: A growth mindset, willing to learn, co-operative and enabling attitude towards training and personal development.

Required Work Experience:

  • Previous internship or initial professional work experience in a laboratory environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Understanding of statistics of analytical chemistry, method validation, quality control.
  • Understanding of any of the following analytical techniques is desirable but not essential – AAS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, CIC, IR Combustion, Titration, EDXRF, WDXRF, Fire Assay, OES.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, Google suite, and project management applications.

Required Qualifications 

  • BSC (Hons) Inorganic Chemistry or Chemistry related discipline.
  • A Master's degree is desirable but not required.

Required Languages 

  • Mandarin speaking.
  • Fluent English.
