As part of my undergraduate Mechanical Engineering degree at Portsmouth University, I completed a placement year in which I spent a year working at RED. I was engaged in a number of projects where I quickly developed my technical skills as well as my all-round professional skill set. On returning for my final year of University I discovered that my work-ethic and general engineering knowledge had improved dramatically resulting in boosting my grades by 10% compared to the previous 2 years and receiving a First Class Honors in a Bachelor of Engineering.
Upon the completion of my degree, I returned to RED after receiving a job offer. RED has also sponsored me to undertake a part time Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Systems for which I travelled to London Southbank University once a week. For the degree, there were a number of modules that focused on sustainability and renewable technologies as well as general building services modules. For my thesis project, I investigated the use of Absorption Cooling Technologies in Data Centres as well as the reuse of waste heat from Data Centres. I recently completed this Master’s degree achieving a Merit.
My passion for sustainable design has grown as I’ve been encouraged to get involved in a variety of projects. With an opportunity now to further develop skill-sets and a variety of directions in the company I could head, I am looking forward to my future here at RED. Upon completion of the MSc, I am now seeking Chartered (CEng) status through the IET.
