Our Recruitment Process

We appreciate that applying for an Early Careers (Graduate/Placement/Apprenticeship) role can feel like a daunting experience. For some, it might be the first time you have embarked on a formal recruitment process, or for others, you may have had a really poor experience.

Here at DNV we try to make our process different. In our recent Candidate Experience survey, well over 80% of respondents either “loved” or felt our overall process was “really good” when compared with others they had been involved in, describing it as “informative”, “engaging”, “personal”, “efficient” and “meritocratic”.

We don’t claim to be perfect and continually strive to improve. Attracting large volumes of candidates each year naturally means that most leave our process without being offered a role. We hope however, that all candidates learn from the experience, whether it is developing their interview skills and experience, or understanding a little more about themselves and what really motivates them.

So, what do we do?

We have three guiding principles when it comes to our recruitment process:

  • Keep it simple – Only ask about and assess essential criteria. Clear steps and timescales.
  • Make it fair – Objective decision making. Adjustments to enable everyone to show potential.
  • Be human – Engage, explain and be honest. We need to be right for each other, so our processes need to feel two-way.

Our process is split into 4 main steps:

STEP 1: Find a role that appeals to you and click “Apply”.

You’ll answer a few simple questions to ensure that you meet the essential criteria for the specific role. We don’t ask for CVs or Cover letters as everything we need to know about you, will be asked as we progress. That’s it!

STEP 2: Complete some online game-based assessments.

You’ll complete some fun, online assessments via our partners Arctic Shores. These assess the natural behavioural traits and skills we believe are most critical for that specific role. The assessments are objective, validated through behavioural science, and easily adapted should you require reasonable adjustments to ensure a fair and inclusive process for all.

STEP 3: Join an online briefing to learn more about the opportunity.

Recruitment should be a two-way process. We feel it’s important that you hear from members of our team and learn more about what the role entails, to make sure it’s definitely what you’re looking for. Prioritising and preparing for an Assessment Day or Interview can be hard, so we want to make sure you have all the information you need, prior to attending the final stage in our process.

STEP 4: Attend an Assessment Day or Interview

Our final step is an Assessment Day, where you take part in an interview, group activity and Q&A session with some of our current graduates/apprentices. You’ll also meet with a host of future colleagues who would be involved in your development, so it’s a perfect chance to engage and ask about the things that matter to you.

For Placement and Internship roles, rather than an Assessment Day, you’ll instead be invited to an interview with members of our specific technical team, giving you the chance to learn more about the opportunity and get a feel for the type of work you would be involved with during your time with us.

Our Assessment Days and Interviews tend to be conducted virtually, making them as convenient as possible to attend. Occasionally, it may be more appropriate to conduct these in person and this would be communicated as early as possible in the process.

And that’s our process. It really is as simple as that. Whether you apply for a Graduate, Placement or Apprenticeship opportunity with us, we endeavour to make your recruitment journey with us as engaging, informative, inclusive and transparent as possible.

It is important to us that every candidate has a fair chance to shine. That’s why we use AI-proof tools such as Arctic Shores to objectively assess your potential, and don’t mandate the need for CVs and cover letters as part of our process.

Naturally, we are unable to offer all candidates reaching the final stage in our recruitment process an opportunity, but all receive verbal feedback, including practical advice and tips on aspects they could develop for next time.

We also encourage you, to reach out at any point during our process, if you would like to discuss adjustment options to assist your recruitment journey with us, or simply wish to have a conversation to share any questions or concerns you might have.
