XPI Simulation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Thales UK, are looking to recruit a Product Specialist to join our team of experts based at Crawley. XPI Simulation Ltd is a world leading provider of driver training simulation solutions, providing real time, 3D graphics technology and high quality simulation and training to Governments armed forces and commercial customers around the globe. As Product Specialist, the post holder will fulfil an integral role within the team, defining and delivering Technical Strategy and Product Line Management responsibilities for XPI’s autonomous vehicle and driving simulation business.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

As Product Specialist, you will span across business and market sectors within Thales, finding practical benefits and genuine synergies in the training solutions product range and value from harmonised ways of working including definition towards industrial policy to sustain and grow the order pipeline for XPI. Key duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lead XPI autonomous vehicle simulation product development activities – understand end-user needs, define the product roadmap, assess investment requirements and associated business cases, identify key features and differentiators
  • Engage with customers, external partners, government agencies, regulatory bodies and international standards bodies in order to understand and shape this emerging domain
  • Act as a conduit for information flow across XPI’s and TS’s Technical & Product Line Management, Engineering, Training Capability and wider organisation as required for all product development activities
  • Liaise closely with development teams to identify potential issues and opportunities at an earlier stage by tracking/monitoring progress, lessons learned etc. This will complement the formal tracking of milestones, finances etc.
  •  Support to enhance understanding of the market and competitive environment for a given area
  • Where agreed, lead to develop new Value Proposition in existing or new market
  • Support to enhance Product Policy and Management of the Product Policy life-Cycle Decision Reviews – Organise, co-ordinate & prepare.
  • Support to implement Business Challenge Performance Initiatives plans identified for Sustainability & Growth
  • Support sales and business development activity, including co-ordination of Gates and leading proposal responses to customer requirements

Experience Required

  • Ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders to drive the product strategy
  • Demonstrable experience in understanding complex technical domains
  • Significant product and business acumen
  • Experience should include:
    • Product development / management
    • Marketing of products
    • Understanding and ability to analyse markets and competitors
    • Knowledge of relevant civil and defence markets
    • Demonstrable ability to communicate, collaborate and influence
    • Demonstrable ability to work effectively in a small and large multinational organisations
    • Ability to work with technical people whilst translating customer needs in to a product requirement with an engineering understanding.
    • Understand the levers needed from internal and external customers to maximise the performance or intermediary proposition at each stage of development life-cycle
    • Strong preference will be given to candidates who are able to demonstrate relevant autonomous vehicle domain knowledge

Education / Qualification

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
