Empowering people, enabling innovation
Do you have a passion for IT and enjoy working on customer-focussed projects?
We are looking for driven, committed students who never shy away from achieving the end goal and who take pride in getting the job done well!
If you enjoy working with people at different levels on real projects with real responsibility, then the IT and Business year in industry programme could be the perfect addition to your graduate CV!
Today everything is digital, from the way we work to the way we consume information. Everything is connected, highly personalised and most importantly, customer expectations are set much higher.
Edwards is the brand name our customers have come to trust and rely upon, but we are part of the much bigger Atlas Copco Group which consists of four global Business Areas, including Vacuum Technique. Vacuum Technique has a central Information Systems organisation (VTIS) enabling digital and process innovation. As well as managing global infrastructure and security, we manage and control a large portfolio of projects to enable the Vacuum Technique vision. We achieve this by supporting, developing and rolling out business applications and systems.
With an ever-increasing amount of automation and integration, it is critical that VTIS is fully aligned and ready to support the business area to deliver its growth plans and develop our people to become the digital thinkers of the future.
One of our greatest strengths is the diversity of our workforce with people of all educational and cultural backgrounds working together. We believe that talent and diversity is the key to success and that everybody should feel valued and able to reach their full potential, both in their development and their contribution to the business.
Edwards’ Year in Industry (Industrial Placement) within VTIS provides current undergraduate students with an exciting paid learning opportunity in the field of Business IT. Here you will put the theory you have learnt in an academic environment into practical application in the workplace. During your placement you will gain an appreciation of one or more business technology processes from start to finish – you will also learn about wider business processes and it will give you a taste of project management and business analysis. It’s also a placement where you’ll develop your leadership skills too.
During your 12 months with us you will have regular progress reviews providing you with invaluable developmental feedback from your line manager, programme manager and the University (if applicable). High performing individuals on the Year in Industry programme may be offered a permanent position with us on the corresponding graduate programme following their final year at University.
You will be based in our Global Technology Centre in Burgess Hill, Sussex, a short drive away from the vibrant seaside city of Brighton and Hove.

We offer a competitive salary along with a robust development opportunity, including online learning modules and on the job technical training. We've signed the Gradcracker feedback pledge.
(This means that we will supply feedback if requested after an interview.)
