MSc in Petroleum Geoscience, IFP School; BSc Applied Geophysics, Federal University of Technology Akure
I am a geoscientist who enjoys data science, music, mountain climbing, sketching and football! For me life is for sharing with people, going on adventures, and exploring new challenges.
Becoming a geoscientist was a dream of mine since high school. I was captivated at the time by the energy sector and always enjoyed geography, maths and physics so studying geoscience at university was a natural progression for me.
After studying applied geophysics in Nigeria, I moved to Europe to study for an MSc. I received sponsorship from Equinor, recently completing my final year project with them which focused on mapping geological storage for CO2 in the North Sea.
When I saw the advert on LinkedIn for the CGG mentoring programme I quickly applied as I could see the advantages of an industry mentorship for my professional development.
My mentor, Owen, was very open from our first meeting; I got to know about him and his work and then we came to an understanding of my goals for the mentorship programme. Our discussions throughout the course of the programme were centred on discovering more about the work at CGG and developments in the geoscience sector, expanding my knowledge of subsurface imaging, receiving feedback & advice and career coaching.
More specifically, Owen provided feedback on my presenting abilities, reviewed my résumé, and set up an HR interview to prepare me for my job search after my graduation. Additionally, mentees were invited to one of CGG’s internal workshops (which were run remotely due to the pandemic) for their graduates on innovative working practices, which I found quite eye-opening. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and his insights helped me tremendously.
