EC&R in Park Square is involved in projects covering a wide range of sectors including refining, petrochemical, bulk commodity chemicals, fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

The Graduate Fire Safety Engineer will contribute to ensuring that the Fire Safety (including Construction, Design and Management (CDM)) aspects of each project design within the remit of the business’ operations are maintained to the relevant acceptable standards and comply with applicable legislation.

As a Graduate Fire Safety Engineer your activities will typically entail:

  • Planning and prioritising your own work to ensure that functional project requirements on scope, time and cost are met.
  • Assisting in coordinating fire safety activities and deliverables across the various industry sectors.
  • Gathering and compiling fire safety information
  • Assistance in preparation and execution of: fire strategies, fire risk assessments, fire inspections, assistance with fire detection deliverables (e.g. equipment schedules, data sheets, cause and effect matrices), fire protection deliverables (e.g. system specification and calculations).
  • To support Client requests for fire safety consultancy services, including some client interfacing and meetings.
  • At the end of each project phase, ensure that all lists, files reports, etc. are filed correctly, ready for input to the next project phase.

Ensure that work complies with all necessary corporate, departmental and legislative requirements and procedures, to guarantee that the necessary consistency and quality of delivery is maintained.



  • Fire Engineering Degree or equivalent (minimum 2:1).
  • Post graduate qualification (e.g. MSc / MPhil / PhD) in fire safety is advantageous but not essential
  • An ability to work in a project-based environment
  • Strong team working ethic
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to produce well-presented and easy to understand reports
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong Mathematical and Computer software skills
  • A focus on results and project delivery
  • The drive and motivation to become a Chartered Engineer.


  • Relevant work experience is a clear advantage
  • Modelling techniques – computational fluid dynamics (CFD), hydraulic modelling.
  • Ability to travel. Projects are both UK based and International and therefore travel to Client offices and Sites will be undertaken to support the activity. On occasion this may mean assignments in the UK or overseas.
  • Ability to acquire security clearance.
