Hi, I’m Juliet Okorafor. I studied Chemical Engineering at university, and I’m currently a Graduate Process Engineer in the Water team, based in London, UK.
I first joined Jacobs as a Summer Intern in the summer before my final year at university, where I spent 8 weeks. I returned to Jacobs as a Graduate nearly a year ago.
In my role, I support with the design of water and wastewater treatment plants. I am primarily office based although in the past year, I’ve had several opportunities to go on site, experiences I’ve found to be very valuable. I work in multi-disciplinary teams, teams based mainly in London, but also across the UK and Poland too. A typical day in my role could involve participating in team or client meetings, completing engineering calculations, developing engineering models, or writing technical reports.
What makes Jacobs a great company to start your career is the variety of opportunities available and the supportive company culture. Working at Jacobs gives you the chance to work on diverse but meaningful projects. From the very beginning, I have had the chance to experience a variety of different projects, each with real levels of responsibility, whilst still being supported in my learning and growth. There is a very friendly and welcoming company culture - people are always willing to help.
As a graduate, you’re automatically enrolled on The Graduate Development Programme (GDP). The GDP offers a flexible but structured path to developing skills which are essential to your role. It also offers a clear route to receiving mentorship from senior staff.
Furthermore, Jacobs is a very social company. Jacobs have eight employee networks (known as “JENs”), which regularly organise events that help you to meet new people, get involved in volunteering, or just to simply unwind after work, helping you to feel part of a wider community.
