The role holder should be a student who is looking for a twelve-month programme within our Production Engineering Department, where there will be the opportunity for you to experience innovation and technological developments. You will gain hands-on experience on a practical project, and you will also receive training and gain exposure to other departments. You will work alongside experts who can help you to obtain a wide understanding of our business.

This position is responsible for determining the manufacturing methodology, supporting Martin-Baker manufacturing processes within a small batch environment whilst operating to high standards of quality and customer care, and developing robust solutions to manufacturing problems.

Areas Of Responsibility:

  1. Support manufacturing activities on old and new products by:
  • Improving efficiency by developing automated methods to analyse and communicate production data
  • Analysing of production time and material variances, and their effect on product cost
  • Ensuring accurate master data is made available to facilitate engineering resource planning
  • Investigating defects, and determine root cause and corrective action
  • Ensuring production resources which aid efficient assembly are identified and solutions implemented 
  • Creating build instructions and test plans
  • Defining inspection characteristics to ensure fault free product is manufactured

    2.    Support the implementation of new equipment by:

  • Benchmarking existing methods
  • Implementing new equipment and working practices
  • Determining business benefit through Value Engineering
  • Compiling reports for the SMT

     3.   To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required / instructed in order to maintain and / or improve the efficiency, quality and service provided by the Production Engineering Department

Education & Qualifications:

  • You must be working towards a good degree (1st or Upper 2nd Class Honours) in an appropriate engineering-based subject.

Specific / Technical Skills

  • Communication skills: able to communicate verbally, in presentation format and in writing
  • Good data analysis skills
  • Good Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills
  • Ability to program Visual Basic

Knowledge & Experience

The ideal applicant will have:

  • Some knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques i.e., lean manufacturing
  • Basic CAD and Engineering drawing ability e.g., for design and review of a part from a production perspective
  • Some work experience in an engineering company
