You will gain a wide array of experience in your day to day role, however as part of the programme you will also complete a number of development modules and activities over a two year period. Whilst actively participating in the 2 year graduate program, you will learn the skills required for successful introduction of new and support of existing products. This includes understanding the key technologies involved and developing practical skills in manufacturing and test process design for RF, digital and optical product applications.

How the role fits

As a Graduate Engineer you will be given the opportunity to work in a challenging and dynamic environment working as part of a small team of professional Manufacturing Engineers facilitating the introduction of new products into manufacturing and providing real time support to the manufacturing organisation Under the Graduate Programme you will be given the opportunity to explore a number of the aspects of the development lifecycle, including requirements analysis and definition, design, implementation, integration, verification, test and through life support. You will receive mentoring and support to achieve your personal goals and be able to take advantage of a wealth of development opportunities and further learning, including the opportunity to achieve accreditation from your professional body.

What you will do

Activities include

  • Early involvement with Design Engineering to ensure Leonardo product designs are optimised for manufacture.
  • Managing the transition of product design data from the Engineering to Manufacturing domain.
  • Developing and implementing manufacturing strategies, adopting Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Introducing innovation to manufacturing and test methods in order to achieve improved manufacturing efficiency.

As a Graduate Manufacturing Engineer you will be required to interface with all areas of the company and with external suppliers and partners to ensure "right first time" easy to manufacture and test designs, at the lowest credible cost and achieving the right product quality.

You will generally report to a Lead Engineer who will provide day to day guidance and training. Most training will be delivered via on the job experience whilst working on projects delivering state of the art systems to our customers. Additional formal technical training to augment the on the job training will be provided via taught courses, dependent upon the business need and also on career direction of the individual.

What we are looking for


Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Normally this is to the level of Security Check (typically known as “SC”) for our business, but may need to be to a higher level for this particular role due to the nature of the projects and or programmes that the role will be supporting.


All of our roles require (a) a minimum of an upper Second class Bachelors/Integrated Masters degree, or (b) a higher degree, such as a MSc or PhD in Manufacturing Engineering, Electronic/Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Highly desirable

Experience of Mechanical design, CAD Modelling, electronic component and Printed Circuit Board concepts is desirable. Previous manufacturing related experience and knowledge of six-sigma/lean improvement techniques would be an advantage.
