Markets is the financial barometer of world events. You’ll help institutional investors, like governments and pension funds, to identify market opportunities, manage risk and generate returns for their portfolios in a world of constant change. By doing so, you’ll facilitate the flow of finance that drives the world economy; helping the businesses all around us to grow and innovate.

Working at Barclays

Find out what it's like to work at Barclays.

Research is an ideas factory. We dig deep into the underlying factors that affect the world’s financial markets and provide insights that empower our clients to take key strategic and investment decisions. Research is a centre of subject-matter expertise on the companies, markets and securities that we cover, delivering real time intelligence and long-term vision. It’s vital to the performance of our global investment bank.

About the role

Join us, and you’ll be at the heart of the world’s financial markets, in an exciting, demanding environment where fast reactions and clear analysis of market trends are essential. You’ll be part of a team that’s key to the growth of our clients’ businesses and our own. Working and learning alongside experts in their field, you’ll make sure we deliver the right products and solutions every time.

What to expect

Our two-year Research Expert Programme focuses on helping you develop specialist expertise in investment research. After this, you’ll go straight into the equity research team, working with senior analysts and contributing insights and ideas to investment theses and reports. Working on live projects, you’ll find yourself analysing macro industry trends, gathering data, building models and databases and developing and delivering marketing materials for clients. In time, you’ll find yourself presenting your ideas to colleagues as well as clients.

How you’ll develop

This is job-based, hands-on training, as you build your skills on live projects that really matter. You’ll receive bespoke support and coaching from the very best in the Research business: a line manager who wants you to succeed, and a talent coach who’ll be focused on your development. Together, they’ll help you to explore, develop and achieve mastery. And we’ll encourage you to learn, at your own pace, all the skills and techniques you need to thrive in the world of Research at Barclays. Our vast suite of learning materials will always be at your fingertips. You’ll be surrounded by colleagues you can share with and learn from. You’ll gain membership of our global graduate network, with exclusive access to content, events and forums to support you and help you develop. And you’ll get the opportunity to have an impact on the communities in which we live and work.

By the end of your programme you’ll have gained all the understanding and skills you need to move into a fulfilling permanent role.

Who thrives here

We welcome people from any educational background, so long as they have a strong interest in business and finance. To make the most of this opportunity, you’ll be curious and creative, tech-savvy and adaptable. You’ll be great at communicating and collaborating, competitive but caring. Motivated by pace and pressure, you’ll be driven to achieve — and to do it right. You’ll also be, ready to develop a deep understanding of what we do, why we do it, and how your role impacts on our business outcomes. These are qualities that people at Barclays have in abundance, and we’ll help you develop and strengthen them from the day you arrive.
