Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops high-quality service information on Cummins products and systems.
  • Develop or maintain service information from product design documentation and information provided by subject matter experts in the engineering and service functions.
  • Integrate relevant information into well written text instructions, functional descriptions, and operation and service procedures with illustrating graphics.
  • Maintain the library of service information as products evolve, safety issues arise, experience is gained and feedback is provided on the installation, operation and servicing of the equipment.
  • Assist with day-to-day service information problems and customer inquiries.
  • Participate on new product introduction teams as required.
  • Maintain and communicate status for all active projects.
  • Lead improvement activities that reduce development cost, complexity and improve content quality.
  • Generate improvement ideas and integrate new technology
  • to develop solutions and improvements that align with customer expectations and business objectives.
  • Write for re-use using XML authoring system.
  • Write effectively with translations in mind.
  • Develop and maintain up to date work procedures.

Qualifications

Skills

Technical Writing - Writes technical instructions so target audience can understand and apply; organises product information and converts into appropriate content and format for the given publication and target audience; summarises complex systems as well as break down into individual components and diagnostics to create service information using established processes and tools.

Technical Graphic Illustration - Applies the appropriate tool and media type to enable the target audience to understand the desired action; creates effective high quality graphic media from a variety of sources, including complex engineering product models.

Service Information Process - Organises product technical information by utilising available resources including established systems, processes, tools, teams, and suppliers to deliver service information to a target audience; identifies and resolves emerging issues by breaking down complex processes, tools, systems, or agencies in order to prevent delays in the delivery of desired outcomes.

Collaborates - Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.

Directs work - Providing direction, delegating, and removing obstacles to get work done.

Optimises work processes - Knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control - Plans, schedules, coordinates and executes the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitors and communicates across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; ensures product capability meets or exceeds expectations and takes mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected; understands the full product life cycle process and stakeholders.

Project Management - Establishes and maintains the "Balanced Triangle" of Scope, Schedule and Resources for a temporary effort (a "project").

Education, Licenses, Certifications

College, university or equivalent technical experience required.

Experience

  • Minimum level of relevant experience required
  • Good writing skills is required
  • Interest in creating technical documentation is required

Familiar with one or more of the following concepts is desirable:

  • Engines and Generator Sets
  • Controller Software and Hardware
