Where the STEM jobs are
Gradcracker works here's the proof
Cummins are now recruiting for our 2020 intake of 12 month placements in the UK, which provide a meaningful opportunity for university students to accomplish real-world projects in a professional environment.
The successful candidate will work within the Electrified Power Business Unit – Electrochemistry team based within the Milton Keynes Battery Technical Centre. The role provides opportunity to participate within a team of electrochemistry engineers and technicians supporting electrochemical characterisation of Li-ion cell technology, understanding and differentiating the effect of the cathode and anode materials has at cell level on the performance.
The student will lead analysis on the study of differing external conditions has on the effect on the cell performance, the cycle life and calendar life. These factors can include temperature, state of charge windows, current rates, compression pressure, busbar connections, as well as across various cells that are utilising different chemistries. The test data will be analysed, characterised and reported, with target deliverable to publish in a scientific journal.
The role also allows for opportunity for the continued improvement of in-house research projects, supporting advanced engineering activities from participating in designing and validating new testing equipment to providing greater testing and validation of the key parameters that have inputs into other engineering functions, such as mechanical and thermal management.
We are looking for a student with an interest in electrochemistry and Li-ion batteries, who is studying for a technical degree in any of the following fields:
During the placement a mentor will be provided and they will provide regular coaching throughout the 12 months. The role will also work closely with other engineers. Safe working and protocol familiarisation training will be provided. Access to, and training in, the use of industry standard tools for analysing and elaborating test data will also be given.
