James

"I developed skills that I still use to this day such as a basic understanding of Electronic Design and knowledge of how to build large and scalable software applications."

Initially I started at Martin-Baker on a placement in the Systems Engineering department found through the Year in Industry scheme. Most of my work during that time centred around modelling different aspects of the ejection seat. This analysis is often used for tasks such as determining crew weights limits or determining in what situations a pilot will be able to eject safely.

Whilst I was studying Software Engineering at university I was invited to come back to the company for multiple placements, once in the Electronic Engineering department and twice in the Systems Engineering department. These proved invaluable and helped develop skills that I still use to this day such as a basic understanding of Electronic Design and knowledge of how to build large and scalable software applications.

Now my role is focused on developing a range of software tools that are primarily used in production environments.
