Looking for a great start to your career in technology, earning and learning on a professionally accredited, award-winning scheme? We are looking to recruit the experts of the future on our nationally recognised, award-winning Apprenticeship Programme.
You will be working within world class facilities regardless of which site you are based. Dependent on your role, you may be working in an office or lab environment or a combination of both. There may also be opportunities to travel between the Company’s UK sites to meet with colleagues, customers and suppliers
We are looking for talented, enthusiastic people who understand the importance of communication, who are able to work well as part of a team and also on their own initiative. You will have the drive and commitment to work through difficult problems to find the right engineering solutions.
As part of this Apprenticeship programme, you will join the Luton Software Engineering community which is home to the Electronic Warfare (EW) and Major Air Programmes (MAP) lines of business. A world leader in electronic systems, our advanced technology is defining the next generation of products for both manned and unmanned aircraft platforms, including airborne radars and sensors, protection and countermeasure systems and integrated mission systems.
We are looking for the next generation of motivated and adaptable software engineers to join our growing software community and work with our teams of world-leading experts in a fast-paced and dynamically changing environment:
Involved in all phases of the software engineering lifecycle you will be exposed to the latest tools, technologies and processes and have the opportunity to influence the future path of software development within Leonardo.
This could be developing real-time embedded software on a complex aircraft protection system, creating sophisticated analysis and support tools running in a PC desktop environment or contributing ideas to innovate the next generation of products.
Alongside this, you will also study with one of our partner Universities towards achievement of BSc (Hons) or BEng (Hons) degree in an appropriate engineering discipline through a mixture of work based learning, distance learning and day release at University. On completion you should have met the requirements for Incorporated Engineer as part of the way to gaining Chartered Engineer status.
Note: This Apprenticeship assumes the candidate has little professional engineering experience is NOT suitable for candidates who already have an engineering degree.
During your employment, you will be required to share your time between the workplace and university. You will:
Leonardo values people that look to always develop throughout their career and along with an eager willingness to learn, a successful apprenticeship with Leonardo involves a drive to deliver results, sometimes from your own initiative, a patience for problem solving, as well as a need to comply with safety instructions and clear process compliance at all times.
We view commitment to the programme and learning objectives very highly.
Please note that in order to apply for this opportunity you must be eligible for UK Security Clearance. Normally this is to the level of Security Check (typically known as “SC”) for our business.
You must be interested in IT and have a technical aptitude in software development, maybe gained through a hobby, designing an App/website or through programming.
At the end of the programme, you will work as a highly qualified member of our Software community developing software for technically advanced avionics systems such as the Defensive Aids System for the Typhoon jet.
Note: If the applicant has no ‘A levels’ but has achieved a BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering we will accept the application, with the caveat around attending the maths bridging course based on existing mathematics qualifications. The Maths taught in this course does not carry any credit towards your degree. Each application will be considered individually in consultation with our partnering university.
We recruit on a rolling basis - don’t delay – these roles attract high competition so APPLY NOW to avoid disappointment.
We've signed the Gradcracker feedback pledge.
(This means that we will supply feedback if requested after an interview.)
