Leonardo are looking for an applicant with energy and enthusiasm to join its team of Test Engineers within its Infrared Detectors business based at Southampton. The Infrared Detectors business develops and manufactures some of the most advanced infrared imaging detectors and single element pyroelectric detectors in the world.
The Test Engineering group and its Engineers are responsible for developing and maintaining test equipment used to characterise and test our infrared detector products in both production and in development phases. As such, Test Engineers play a key role in proving that our products meet the technical specifications required of them.
When working as a Graduate Test Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining some of our production test systems, ensuring that they are operating normally and are available with a high level of reliability. When issues arise with the test equipment, a key responsibility of your role will be to identify the problems and to plan repairs or changes so that the equipment can be made available again. This will involve working with other Engineers in team as required who will have specific experience in disciplines such as the electronics hardware design, firmware, or software.
As well as supporting existing production test equipment, you will also get the opportunity to work as part of a team developing new test solutions for new products. Here you will work with the product design team to understand the requirements on the product itself, and then to work on developing the requirements of the test solution that will be created to test the new product.
Through the role you will be able to develop experience of formal test processes used within the defence and space industry so that product qualification programmes can be planned and executed. This will give you the opportunity to conduct environmental testing (e.g. temperature cycling, mechanical vibration and shock) on new products, and to contribute to the formal design qualification reports for those products.
The role in Test Engineering covers a range of disciplines and so candidates that enjoy both laboratory based work and office based data analysis will find the role rewarding. The role involves a great deal of team working and as such, candidates who enjoy working with others and who have strong written and verbal communication skills will find the role enjoyable. Problem solving is also a key skill within the role, and so if you have proven ability to solve problems, perhaps in final year projects, or in laboratory testing, that will give you a good foundation for the role.
Leonardo values its people and we reward commitment with a competitive remuneration and flexible benefits package including:
