Job Description

The Support and Service solutions (S3) line of business operates across all of the main UK sites (and across the globe), providing innovative and invaluable support solutions to our customers. S3 is part of the Electronics Division, which develops and produces a wide range of products and solutions for both manned and unmanned aircraft platforms, including integrated mission systems, airborne radars and sensors, protection and countermeasure systems, on board avionics and simulation systems.

As a graduate systems engineer within S3 you will be looking at the design and operation systems as distinct from the parts. We are every diverse business with many avenues open to graduates.

Key Responsibility Areas

You could be part of a team developing support system architectures and concept solutions, and looking at cost effective support of equipment through its life; you could be developing new test systems, designing new products. You could be part of our digitisation team looking at data and applications or you could be working on a programme integrating equipment into platforms. As part of the graduate programme we will aim to give you an understanding of the S3 business and allow you to steer your career.

Working as part of an established systems engineering community and supported by a team of experienced engineers, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing practical skills in engineering design and development for complex systems, understanding key processes and technologies.
  • Gaining an understanding of the support domain to develop the relevant products and technologies for the future.
  • Working closely with engineers across multiple disciplines to solve problems.
  • Completing tasks to a high standard in accordance with appropriate processes and procedures.
  • Taking an active role in engineering process improvement, ensuring the communication of best practice across the systems engineering team.
  • Developing and applying your academic skills to solve problems, generate ideas and be proactive within the team.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

All of our roles require (a) a minimum of an upper Second class Bachelors/Integrated Masters degree, or (b) a higher degree, such as a MSc or PhD. In all cases the subject should be engineering, mathematics, physics or another relevant discipline.

  • Have an understanding of mathematics to at least A-Level standard, and a basic understanding of electronics.
  • Experience or understanding of an Avionics Support environment
  • Experience in customer focused roles
  • Design Thinking, UI / UX Design, Data science
  • Knowledge of a programming based language (e.g. C,Visual Basic, Python)
  • Ability to create web based applications
  • Knowledge of and/interest in avionics equipment
  • Experience of working with engineering development tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, Rhapsody, DOORS, Teamcenter).

This role can be based in Luton, Edinburgh or Basildon.
