Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship

Job purpose

Farrans Construction are seeking to recruit several Apprentice Quantity Surveying Students for a range of exciting projects across the UK. Successful students will be guided by Senior Quantity Surveyors gaining commercial experience and providing key technical support in the financial management of the projects they are assigned to.

Apprentices will work alongside experts in all areas of the business which will develop their knowledge and understanding of their assigned project and of Farrans working culture. Through mentoring and coaching, apprentices will be given numerous opportunities and challenges which will help support them through their placement and create a platform for them to begin building their career.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Analyse subcontract quotations.
  • Review conditions and/or qualifications prior to submission of a tender.
  • Ensure the preparation of interim applications, including works executed, materials on site and works by subcontractors is submitted to the Client’s team by agreed deadline.
  • Source contract variations and help evaluate and measure these with Senior Quantity Surveyors.
  • Gather records to confirm additional payments where required and defend claims received from subcontractors.
  • Assist with the procurement of subcontractors.
  • Generate payments and distribute notices to suppliers and subcontractors, including the measurement of works and differences executed to evaluate final costs and accounts.
  • Contribute to the submission of weekly financial forecasting including the assembling of contract costs.

Working conditions

Successful candidates will be expected to travel as part of their role to construction sites, Company fixed locations or other locations as requested by Senior Management.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of at least 96 UCAS Tariff points at Level 3 e.g. A Levels, BTEC National Certificate/Diploma (or equivalent)**
  • Full Driving Licence

Skills & Competencies

  • Passionate about the construction and building industry.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capable of working on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and meticulous planning and organisational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise.
  • An excellent professional demeanour.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and various locations throughout the UK and ROI if required.
