The Airbus Defence and Space Electrical Systems Department in Stevenage is responsible for three major subsystems: Spacecraft Power Systems & Harness, TT&C and On Board Data Handing Management. The Electrical Systems Engineering team design, develop, provide support to AIT and finally to launch & in Orbit support. Our missions range from Science and Exploration spacecraft in Low Earth Orbits monitoring the health of the planet to Deep Space missions including probes, landers and rovers, heading to Mars and beyond. Design activities start with early phase concepts, with responsibility right up to and including launch of the spacecraft, and in-orbit commissioning of the spacecraft systems.
Task & accountabilities :
Support to early concept studies, including RF link assessment, data handling, and power and energy balance of the spacecraft.
Derive the subsystems requirements from the top level requirements and interface definition, modelling and analysis, support to testing, performance and design verification with emphasis on Electrical subsystem.
Detailed definition of spacecraft architectures, and equipment, including responsibility for development of new concepts with suppliers, and end-to-end selection, and supply of hardware to the spacecraft.
Responsibility for the verification planning and definition, as well as support activities to integration of hardware onto the spacecraft
Support to launch preparation, including launch simulations and support to European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), monitoring and analysing mission telemetry during the launch and commissioning phase.
Required skills :
Degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following
An interest in one or more of the following electrical disciplines:
Power analysis and energy balance, including sizing and selection of Solar Array, batteries and Power Conditioning & Distribution system
Data handling and communication protocols, including storage and transfer of information
Ability to perform detailed analysis and assessment of equipment, sub-system and system performance.
Enjoy being intellectually challenged and be able to demonstrate a logical and systematic approach to problem solving and trade-offs
Be able to accurately define a verification plan in order to prove functional performance of equipment’s and sub-systems through analysis and/or test
Demonstrate a willingness to utilise practical skills including development of test sites, hardware development, and verification.
