I have been with Farrans since 2014, working predominantly on the Scottish Water framework, before providing cost control on Grudie Renewable Hydro Scheme and then moving to Bad a Cheo Windfarm where I am currently based.
I chose a career with Farrans because, having operated in Scotland for 70 years and across a range of sectors, their diversity and trusted reputation was highly attractive.
Also, being a main contractor, I knew I would develop experience liaising with both the client and subcontractors. On the commercial side, there seemed to be a great focus on strategy and personal development in order to support continuous growth. As a graduate, this was important to me.
The training, development and support I have received at Farrans has been second to none. The management team is very approachable, right up to director level, and it is very easy to ask for advice if required.
When I asked to return to university to attain my honours degree in Quantity Surveying, Farrans fully supported me in this effort. They also encouraged me to start my APC towards RICS chartership which I started in September 2016.
I think the support and guidance has really carved my own development in this role and I was delighted to be recognised as ‘Most Promising Trainee Quantity Surveyor’ by CECA Scotland in 2017.
