You will be joining the United Utilities family of over 5,000 employees who all help to provide great service for our 7 million customers.

Role Overview

In the Environment, Planning and Innovation department you will join our Long Term Strategy team, a forward-thinking team working to generate value for our customers and stakeholders through partnerships and sustainability.

You will support the mapping of risks and interdependencies from flood (both natural and from impounding reservoirs) and from power supplies.

Internship Duration: 3 months (July - September)

Responsibilities will be to support with:

• The building of a GIS workspace that overlays the power supply system to UU assets
• Reviewing and updating our flood risk assessment including identified electricity assets 
• Cross checking UU asset criticality information to evaluate potential impact of power loss to UU systems

Don't worry, we won't throw you in at the deep end. You'll have mentors and managers with you as you progress through your placement and support you as you work towards your personal development goals.

Who we are looking for

• You will be aiming for a minimum of a 2:1 in a related degree such as Geography, Environmental Studies, Sustainability studies and a student in your penultimate year at university.
• You must have data analytics experience and knowledge of and experience using GIS with a desire to develop GIS capability.
• You should possess excellent written and interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate and influence across all levels within the organisation, including being able to creatively use a range of media and presentation skills for qualitative and quantitative information.
• You must be motivated and enthusiastic, understand the importance of team work and possess ambition and drive to succeed and make the most out of you 10 week internship.
• You should be able to be comfortable working flexibly across a range of tasks and activities to deadlines, be able to prioritise your time and be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
