Making a Real Impact, Fast:
Fresh out of university, I craved a career that tackled a significant challenge. The construction industry's carbon footprint was a stark reality as it accounts for 40% of global GHG emissions, and Genuit Group's commitment to sustainability resonated deeply.
The Genuit Graduate Scheme: Launchpad for Success
Genuit's management program wasn't just about learning, it was about leading. Within a year, I was managing projects, contributing to the annual report, and presenting to senior leadership, including the CEO. This exposure to strategy and management fuelled my rapid development to become manager in just two years.
What I do:
Today, I'm proud to be Genuit Group's Sustainability Manager. This role wouldn't be possible without the exceptional foundation provided by the graduate programme. Here's what I do:
- Leading the Charge on Sustainability: I oversee GHG/carbon reporting for all 28 global sites, ensuring compliance and driving our sustainability agenda. We have managed to reduce our carbon impact by over 50% since 2019 (scope 1 and 2)
- Championing Sustainable Solutions: I spearhead the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) strategy, adding value to our low-carbon products and promoting a net-zero construction industry.
- Empowering Our People: I run an internal Sustainability Hub, educating our 3,500+ employees and acting as a sustainability consultant for subsidiaries.
- Industry Influencer: I represent Genuit in key trade associations and support the International Standards Association, shaping the future of sustainable practices.
Why Genuit?
- Diverse and Dynamic: I work with a variety of businesses, products, and processes, keeping me engaged and challenged.
- Global Impact, Local Roots: While based in Leeds, I get to travel internationally to collaborate with industry leaders, pushing the boundaries of sustainability.
- Fast-Paced Growth: My journey from graduate to Group Sustainability Manager in just a few years is a testament to Genuit's commitment to developing future leaders.
