Loughborough Women's Engineering Society (WES)

The Loughborough University Women’s Engineering Society is open to students from all engineering disciplines. It is affiliated with the National Women’s Engineering Society and has connections with Engineers without Borders, the Association for Black and Ethnic Minority Engineers, the Ethnic Minorities Network and Loughborough Space within the university. We are proud of the work we do to inspire and support women to achieve their potential as engineers and future leaders in STEM based practices.

The facts

Every year we send multiple students to the WES national conference for free and offer multiple industrial site visits.
We aim to show what engineering has to offer and that it is for everyone regardless of their background.
We are affiliated to the national Women’s Engineering Society and offer career advice and support.
We run STEM ambassador training and volunteer in local schools to inspire young people to consider engineering.

Our aims:

  • To support and encourage current students in their future STEM careers with our annual careers fair, industrial site visits and professional talks.
  • To celebrate and promote equality within the engineering sector, by providing networking events with professionals from different sectors.
  • To highlight the opportunities available, and to offer unique insights through valuable industrial connections.
  • To promote STEM careers to young people in the local community, through our STEM ambassadors sharing their knowledge and experiences.
