Your New Role, what’s involved 

As a paid, full time and permanent employee at WSP, you will feel a sense of belonging, in an environment where everyone feels respected and valued. We want to see your true authentic self. We want you to be inspired, learn, discover, and empower your career.

We’ll work closely with you over the course of your apprenticeship to support and plan a development pathway that suits you. We work together with local Universities to make sure you get the best out of your apprenticeship. 

You’ll start the apprenticeship in September 2024, attending a local university for either one day per week or block placement. Acquiring a full undergraduate degree. Typically, the Level 6 qualification takes between 5-6 years to complete. 

We have opportunities in

  • Civil Engineering; within our Bridges, Highways, Water, Local Government, Transport Planning and Structures team(s). You will learn how to design, build, and maintain our roads, bridges, sports stadiums, high rises, airports and beyond. 
  • Building Services; learn the services within a variety of buildings or rail stations. For example, mechanical; heating, ventilating, bio-hazard mitigation. Electrical; lighting, renewable energy. Hydraulics; high purity water systems, sea systems. 
  • Rail Design; from metro to rapid transit to light and heavy rail. You will be involved with planning, designing, operating, and maintaining rail systems. 
  • Transport Planning; looking at the type of travel people and goods choose. For example, highways, rail, air, or water. You will be involved with the planning, designing, and upgrading of this transport infrastructure. 

As an apprentice, you will be equipped with the most sophisticated design tools, exploring fresh, new ways to design and build for our future, using the latest software, gaining technical experience while you learn on the job.

We’d love to hear from you if you have 

  • You’ll have achieved or predicted 5 GCSE’s Grade C/Level 5 or above in English, maths, science
  • You will have either achieved or predicted A Levels (or equivalent) with grades BBC. To study Engineering subjects you will need a grade C minimum in maths or further maths. Or a BTEC Extended Diploma (Level 3) with grades DDM in an engineering-related subject with a further maths component.

How long does the process take?

Submit Application: You’ll receive a confirmation email within 48 hours of submitting your application. 

Online Behavioral Assessment: We will review your application, if we feel your background and skills are suitable, you will be sent an invite to complete an online behavioral assessment. To learn more about the assessment please visit Support For Candidates | Arctic Shores.

Assessment Centre or Interview: If you are successful after completing the online behavioural assessment. We will work hard to match you to the most suitable roles in our business. The final stage is either an assessment center or face to face interview, within 8 weeks of initial application. 
Please note, the process can take up to 12 weeks in total if you’re an early applicant. We will aim to keep you informed throughout the time that your application is being considered however, due to the volume of applications received, we are not able to respond to individual requests for status updates.
