As part of our collaborative teams, you will gain practical experience, learn from industry experts, and explore the breadth of opportunities available across our business. By the end of your placement, you'll have developed valuable skills, expanded your professional network, and gained greater confidence in your future career choices.

  • Civil – Maritime Engineering  - London, Basingstoke or Newcastle
    Degrees considered: MEng Civil Engineering
  • Civil – Bridge Engineering - Birmingham or Manchester
    Degrees considered: MEng Civil Engineering
  • Geotech & Tunnelling - Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol or Hertford
    Degrees considered: MEng Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Energy – Energy Networks - Glasgow, Edinburgh or Newcastle
    Degrees considered: Electrical Engineering
  • Intelligent Infrastructure – Operations & Safety - Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, London, Guildford or Cardiff
    Degrees considered: Human Centred Design, Human Factors & Ergonomics, Geography, Psychology
  • Local Government - Exeter
    Degrees considered: Civil Engineering
  • Development Planning - Birmingham
    Degrees considered: Civil Engineering 
  • Rail – Advisory Services - Manchester, Derby, Birmingham or Bristol
    Degrees considered: MEng Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Rail – Systems Engineering - Birmingham, London, Manchester and Bristol

You will be embedded in an enthusiastic, friendly and supportive team working closely with our engineers and advisors. Providing you with a challenging and fulfilling placement. You will have the opportunity to deal with internal and external stakeholders, collaborate with colleagues and adapt to dynamic project environments.

Scholarships at WSP

At the end of a placement, both students and their hosting teams will be invited to share feedback. If the experience has been positive and you are keen to return, WSP may offer a scholarship to support the remainder of your studies.

Upon graduation, students who have successfully completed their placement and received strong feedback you will be considered for a permanent graduate role, subject to availability. Successful students will then join WSP’s structured 2-year Graduate Development Programme.

Graduate Development Programme

Our two-year Graduate Development Programme is designed to help you build the skills, experience and professional network needed to thrive at the start of your career with us. Through a blend of structured learning, mentoring and hands-on project experience, you will be supported every step of the way.

Application process

Candidates must complete the application form in full, including all specific questions. If successful at this stage, you will be invited to complete an online assessment, containing a Cognitive Assessment, personality questionnaire and Situational Judgement Test (SJT). All stages are essential parts of our early career’s recruitment process.
